How many times do you spend the entire day with a song playing through your mind? It happens to me a lot. Sometimes its as silly as the theme song from Gilligan’s Island or the Oscar Meyer jingle, “Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer wiener. That is what I truly want to be.” Sometimes, like today, it’s a lot deeper. Today the song is “Awesome Wonder” by Trent Cory.

“Awesome Wonder” has been one of my favorite Christian songs ever since I heard it for the first time. Trent Cory is a frequent guest at New Birth and I always enjoy his songs of praise. Trent has a way of lifting up my spirit. You can see in his face as he performs that this man loves God with all his heart and soul. He is a joy to hear and a saint in the kingdom of God.

I woke up at about 2:30 this morning and this song was there. And in that half asleep, have awake state, my mind would not let me go back to sleep until I remembered all the verses. The song includes these lyrics, “Provider, Defender, Master of the universe, You know me.” Then each chorus uses a different word to praise God, “Wonder, Healer” and “Ruler.” Early this morning, I was stuck and couldn’t remember “Ruler.” So, that caused me to sing the other verses over and over, thinking I would remember the last one. This must have gone on for over an hour. “Oh, what a Wonder You are. You are an awesome Wonder!” And then, “Oh, what a Healer You are. You are an awesome Healer.” I fell asleep at some point and when I woke up at my regular time, I immediately went to the computer to listen to this song so I could find that elusive last word. I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard “Ruler.” So, I was able to complete the last verse. “Oh, what a Ruler You are. You are an awesome Ruler.”

I’ve always said that God and The Holy Spirit have a sense of humor. While I was searching for the word “Ruler” for over an hour in the middle of the night, I was actually praising Him all that time. And, I still am as I write this.

The Bible is full of references to praise and worship and song. See Hebrews 1:6, “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” Psalm 45:17 says, “I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.” And Psalm 47:6-7, “Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!”And also the entire Psalm 100, “Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” Of course there are many more, but I’ll just leave you with these for today.

I encourage you to listen to Trent Cory and his awesome songs of praise. I am sure you will enjoy him as much as I do. Buy his CDs. He’s on Facebook, You Tube and my own website, www.blessingsflow.ning.com. And next time you get a song stuck in your head, remember what an awesome Wonder God is, to have created us and given us the ability to remember something as trivial as “They’re creepy and they’re spooky, mysterious and kooky, they’re altogether ooky, the Addams Family.”
