God Is…I Am… Devotional

Day 23 – 2/17/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

God's Word is Transformative

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

For the word [Logos] of God is living and active, sharper

than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division

of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and

discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

HEBREWS 4:12, ESV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

God's universal, natural principles reveal that whatever we put inside us-good or bad-has an effect. lf we eat junk food, we feel one way. lf we eat vegetables, we feel another way. The reason is that both junk food and vegetables are not passive inside our bodies. They each have qualities that have an effect. One food nourishes the body. The other, to a certain extent, weakens it.

The same is true of your soul and spirit. What are you filling your mind with? What are you feeding your spirit? The Word of God has the power to transform, but we have to make a choice to put the Word of God in our minds and hearts.

Living things are active. The Greek word used in Hebrews 4:12 for "word" is Logos. When we put the living, active Word (Logos) of God in our minds, that living, active Word begins to preform a living, active work in us.

If you want to be more fully alive, you have to put what is aIive inside you. And the Logos of God is the most alive thing in the universe. When we position our hearts,  and set our attention on God's Logos, the power of His Word transforms us from the inside out. We can be fully alive. The secret is to feed on the Word of God.

RENEWING INSPIRATION:

When God's Word becomes your delight, it's no longer something you can do without-it's something you cannot live without.

God Is…I Am… Devotional

 Day 24 – 2/18/19: RENEWING TRUTH:

I Am Crucified with Christ

RENEWING SCRIPTURE:

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

GALATIANS 2:20, ESV

RENEWING THOUGHT:

To be crucified doesn't sound like a good thing, but it's the most wonderful thing of all when what is being put to death is your sin, brokenness, and life under a curse.

The Word of God declares that if we have been born again, our lives are not our own. We have been bought with a price. We belong to God. The old is gone, the new is come. The old-with all its shame, regret, and pain-was crucified with Jesus   on the cross. Christ, the hope of glory, lives in us.

How beautiful is a life given over to God. How peaceful and stable is the heart that knows this world is merely temporary. This life we live in the flesh belongs to God; no longer our own, our lives are now marked by Christ who is in us.

As a result, you now live by faith in Jesus’ finished work and not in your own efforts and ability. Not only have you been crucified with Christ, you have been raised to new life. That means every day is a fresh start. But it is no longer you who lives, but Christ in you-the One who loves you and gave Himself for you. The old you died with Jesus on that cruel cross. The new you lives-not in your own strength or efforts-but in simple faith and trust in Christ.

 RENEWING INSPIRATION:

The Christian life is more than simply saying a prayer of accepting Christ. It is following Jesus not only as your Savior, but also as Lord.
