II. Fear: A Hindrance – Session 8 - Part A
1. Definition of Fear – Session 8 - Part A
Before we discuss the toxic emotions (unforgiveness, bitterness, self-bitterness, and rejection) in our soul, that causes sickness and diseases, I will discuss one reason why we struggle to believe God – FEAR. First though, I want to repost the copyright statement I made in the Part 1 – thanks:
The Affidavits, Prayers, and some parts of the sections in Parts II and III, were taken from Dr. Art Mathias’ book, “Biblical Foundations of Freedom, Destroying Satan’s Lies With God’s Truth,” with his permission. Therefore, to copy or use any of the material in Parts II and III, please contact Dr. Mathias, to obtain his permission.

What is fear? According to dictionary.com, fear is “a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the treat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.” Fear is our enemy; it is a spirit and a sin!
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]” (biblegateway.com – Amplified Bible - [AMPC]).
Fear is a sin because it is linked to lawlessness in Revelations 21:8 which says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (biblegateway.com – KJV).
God’s grace and mercy is sufficient to meet and defeat EVERY enemy that comes to attack our lives! God has already given us victory in our lives over the spirit of fear; all we have to do now is appropriate the victory (believe the Word and receive the victory for ourselves – don’t believe fear. Remember the dictionary.com definition of fear; what we are afraid of could be real or imaginary).
ANYTHING that is not of faith, is sin! Yes, fear does warn us of impending dangers and that is a good thing. But we cannot allow it to control our lives; to keep us in a state of “fight or flight” – that wears down our immune system. When we live in the state of “fight or flight,” we have become so fearful, that we only are focusing on those things we are afraid of. We must have faith in God and not in the things we can see; the things which we can see or only temporal but the things we cannot see are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
When we do not believe God, we open the door for fear to come in; fear is the opposite of faith. God loves us and will take care of us but if we don’t believe that, we begin to have fear about our lives (“How AM I going to pay this?”). Jesus clearly tells us in Matthew 6:25-34 not to worry about our lives but to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, then everything else we need, will be added to us!
