"The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul..." (Ps 19:7).
Do Christians read this in agreement with David, then condemn the law when they read the traditional interpretations found in some of Paul's letters?
The "Everlasting Covenant"
Ps. 105:
8 He remembers his covenant forever,the word he commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an ****everlasting covenant***
We find the "EVERLASTING COVENANT" as the covenant for which Jesus, Yahshua died:
Heb. 13:20
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the ***everlasting covenant***
To recap:
The Everlasting Covenant, was given to ISRAEL.
The Everlasting Covenant was the covenant for which Jesus/Yahshua shed His blood.
Nowhere is it stated that Jesus shed His blood for the "New Covenant".
You may ask, why does Jesus say at the "Last Supper" that His blood is the cup of the New Covenant? Check the ancient text and it can proven that the word "new" was not in the earliest texts, but added by the translators early in the transmission of the text, noted by brackets [ ] indicating an addition to the text. The following is from Marcion who wrote in the 2nd century:
Adv.Marc.iv.4019 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it,
and gave to them, saying,
This is my body which is given for you:
this do for my remembrance.
20 And in like manner the cup after supper, saying,
This cup is the *** [new]*** covenant in my blood,
even that which is poured out for you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This text was originally "This cup is the covenant in My blood".
Translators today have corrected this error and do not use the term "new" in these texts, stating that He referenced the "blood of the covenant", not the "new covenant":
NIV
"This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them.
ESV
And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
NASB
And He said to them, "This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
ISV
He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant that is being poured out for many people.
As well as many others.
Hebrews continues to state that Jesus redeemed us from transgressions committed under the First Covenant. That proves again which covenant our Messiah shed His blood for:
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the
***redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament***, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Heb. 9:15
Sin is defined as "transgress of the Law". This "Law" are the laws of the "Everlasting Eovenant" which we find in the Torah.
The Saints continue to keep these laws, as John tells us in
Rev. 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the *commandments of God*, and the faith of Jesus.
God's/YHWH's laws were never nailed to the cross but are to be put in the heart of the New Covenant believer
Jer. 31:
31 “The time is coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.
33“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord. I will put my law/TORAH (H8451) in their minds
(this Torah includes the 10 commandments & of course the Sabbath)
and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
34 No longer will a man teach his neighbor,or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.
Submitted to help us all contend for the faith once delivered to the Saints, and understanding the past, present and future of the Torah, the constitution of Israel, to which all who join or are grafted in will be partakers of and obedient to.
