WHEN YOUR HEART IS FIXED IT IS NOT MIXED

Let me start by making this incredible statement. If you’ll prepare your heart you’ll never have to worry about your actions.

What revelation. So long as your heart is right, and prepared, you’ll never have to worry about what you’re going to do or might do. The truth is that you cannot operate differently or separately from the condition of your heart. In large part, the children of God seem to be more focused with their actions and responses, than they are with the condition of their hearts. The condition of the hearts is not to be ignored, because it plays the major part, or catalyst of our actions.

Christians are constantly trying to control their actions, which is impossible, since they really don’t understand the root cause of those actions. The real cause of these actions centers on what’s occurring in their heart (inner man). This is the element of our divine nature that is largely out of control. If we would recognize what the central or real problem is, then we would see clearly that the process needs to be reversed. Focusing on the reaction instead of the cause always results in frustration.

It isn’t our actions that need so much to be addressed, though they certainly can be troublesome to us and those around us. These undesirable outward reactions and responses always reveal deeper hidden problems which must first be addressed.

The spiritual condition of our heart is generally the last thing we consider when we attempt to understand what’s happening to us. If we dealt with the condition of our heart first, then our actions, the by-product of the real problem, would be alleviated.

Remember, dealing with the root cause always results in predictable and desirable outcomes.

This proverb is a key to understanding this mystery.
Prov 23:7
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

When your heart becomes fixed or stayed on the things of God, you’ll no longer be concerned or worried about your resulting actions. Isaiah makes this very clear for us.

Isa 26:3-4
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

When your heart is fixed, then your heart is not mixed. It’s not mixed with anxieties, unbelief, doubt, or with a multitude of other things like bitterness and resentment. These and many other negative things reside in the heart of the child of God because they’re unaware of how the condition of their hearts impacts their outward nature.

Ask Paul about a fixed heart. He certainly knew.

Acts 20:24
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Paul is speaking to you about a heart that is fixed.

He’s telling you:
1) I’m not moved by the things going on around me.
2) I am not moved by things taking place beside me.
3) I am not moved by what other people do to me.
4) My heart is fixed so that I might finish my course with
joy.

Paul can’t be moved because his heart has been prepared and is fixed on God. The result of that fixation is perfect peace. Who wouldn’t want that for themselves? It’s just as possible for you as it was for him.

Perfect peace results because of your trust and dependence on God. Having intimacy with God, knowing who you are in him, understanding your heart concerning all that he’s done for you is the starting place. When you begin walking and believing in this place, it’ll have a direct impact on the success in your life. You possess the mind of Christ, but you must make his mind your mind. This is where it all begins. It’s the starting place of your relationship with God. The degree, to which you understand this, is going to be to the degree to which you’ll walk in it.

Heb 3:12-13
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

These scriptures have been written for the instruction of the child of God. Take heed and beware, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief.

The unbelief spoken of here in scripture is being described as an evil heart, or a heart that hasn’t been renewed in truth.

The scripture further cautions us to beware, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Unbelief and hardness of heart result in a departing from the living God.

Jesus said in John 10:10 that he came to give us life and life more abundantly. Unbelief and hardness of heart make us depart from the life of God, where there is no abundant life.

Please hear this. . .
I honestly don’t believe that there’s a single person reading this blog who wants to depart from the living God. Sadly, though you claim you don’t want to and though your desire is to faithfully serve the Lord Jesus Christ, you’ll still end up departing from him regardless. It’s the way or the road that unbelief and hardness of heart takes.

Departing from God takes place internally (in your soul), not externally. Read on.

Mark 7:18-23
And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

So, how is it that people fall away from the Lord? How do people fail in the Lord, or forsake and depart from him? And what’s going to keep you and I from falling away and departing from the living God.

The answer is very clear,

2 Chr 12:13-14
So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

The heart of Rehoboam was not prepared to seek the Lord.

…and he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

It’s the reason that Rehoboam did evil and this’ll be the reason we’ll do evil. This is also the reason why people walk away from God, having become frustrated with God and ultimately even forsaking God.

As you can see, not preparing your heart to seek God can and is very dangerous. Preparing to serve God brings you into oneness with him. His ways become your ways and you enjoy the full benefits of intimacy with him.


Once again. . .
Your flesh, or the actions you take, will always follow your heart, or the condition of your heart.

The reason that you do the things you do is because of the root problem of evil within your own heart. The spirit is made new (the new man) in Christ at salvation, but the flesh, or carnal nature is not renewed. It still has evil in its heart. This evil heart desires sin over serving the Living God. Until it is brought into submission according to the word of God, it remains rebellious, seeking its own way.

You may hate the things that you do and wish you could change those undesirable things, but you’re helpless to do anything about them until your heart changes.

As stated, the root problem of evil causes the actions you despise. Until your heart is fixed, you’ll always find yourself in tremendous conflict with what you know is true. Your regenerated spirit tells you what’s right, but you can’t seem to break free to do what’s right. You literally have to force yourself and fight with yourself, not to enter into those things you know are wrong.

Your only solution is to deal with and fix your heart.

Prov 4:23
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Final note:

Many of you are probably thinking that this is impossible to do, but I assure you it is not. The God of your salvation will help you and not frustrate you. He desires for you to know his truth that makes captives free. Seek him out! His word – the Bible will guide you into all truth.

The choice is yours to make. Choose Life!
