I was blessed to hear Dr. Myles Munroe speak to New Birth at our Empowerment Session this week. It is amazing how many times we can read the Scriptures, but never catch the significance of the words. The Holy Spirit spoke through Dr. Munroe Tuesday night and opened my eyes to give me understanding of one of the earliest Scriptures, the creation of Eve.
In Genesis, we read about the creation of the earth, the heavens and the sea, day and night, and all living things both plant and animal. On the 6th day creation was complete and God saw that it was very good. God rested and sanctified the 7th day and blessed it. But God had not yet released rain to activate the plants to grow. Genesis 2:4-6 explains this, “This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground, but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.”
Then God created Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. After this, God created the Garden of Eden and a river to water the garden. It was then that God placed Adam there. It was not until then that the garden became fruitful. So Adam was created to tend and till the garden. He was designed to be the human manager of all earthly creation. “Then God said, “ Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have “dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ ” Genesis 1:26. Adam’s purpose was to manage the earth and everything in it. Notice this, God began the human race with a single person, Adam. He gave instructions to a single person, Adam. And Adam was happy serving his purpose alone. It was not Adam who asked for a helper or a companion. He was so consumed with his purpose that he wasn’t even looking.
It was God who chose to make a companion for Adam. “And the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that a man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’ Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was it’s name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.” Genesis 2:18-20.
It was God’s will that Adam have a companion. And when this companion was not found in all the other living creatures Adam named, God formed Eve. “And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’” Genesis 2:21-23. Woman was the last creature that Adam named! And finally, in Genesis 3:20, this woman is given a name. “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” Adam never once asked God for a companion or a wife!
It is also interesting to note that God did not instruct Eve not to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He only instructed Adam! But, that is another teaching at another time.
Glad to be back with you all.
