An overseer

"An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach"--1 Timothy 3:2. These are all wonderful attributes to have and they each deserve our attention however, today I want to focus our attention on the word temperate which means having power or control over all his passions. We apply the term now with reference to abstinence from intoxicating liquors. In the Scriptures, it includes not only that, but much much more. It implies control over all our passions and appetites.
