National Armed Services? Should Christians Join?
When we look at the plain teachings of Jesus, and the documents of the early church, we do not find believers joining the Roman or other military services.
Today, even in the USA the armed services offer a good, regular income as well as the means to get a college education. Joining the military is the only way for some of our young people begin earning money and be able to go to college.
Is the monetary benefit, because of the lack of other means of income, grounds to have our youth join the secular armed services?
These are some of the admonitions from the bible to consider:
- "Blessed are the peacemakers" (Matthew 5:9)
- "Live peaceably with all men" (Romans 12:18)
- "Follow peace with all men" (Hebrews 12:14)
