Revelation Chapter 10

 

Rev 10:1
I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head; his face was like the sun, and his feet like
pillars of fire.

 

Many believe this to be Jesus Himself! I personally don't think so for a couple of reasons.

 

1) John refers to "another mighty angel" which may imply that this angel is one of several and we all know that there is only one Jesus, to which none can compare!

 

2) The Greek word used here for angel is aggelos, which means messenger. This is the same word found in Revelation 1:20 which referred to the seven stars or angels who are over the seven churches. Again, the Greek word aggelos
or messenger also implies pastor.

 

Incredible imagery surrounds this angel! This angel is clothed in a cloud which assures us of the presence of God! A rainbow on his head represents the Glory of God and reminds us of God's promise not to destroy us, but in long
suffering love, He will patiently wait for us to call on His name! A face like
the sun represents the authority of this angel, but also reminds us of the
righteousness of the Lord! Finally, his feet like pillars of fire speak of the
firm stance of the judgment of the "Day of the Lord!"

 

Rev 10:2
He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land,

 

The "Little Book" is filled with information from God. It is most likely that John has been given full access to the scroll, or the title deed to earth. The scroll will be fully opened with all of the final judgments exposed!

With one foot on the sea and one on the land, demonstrates that this angel has been given dominion over the whole of creation. It also reminds us that even though Satan has been given dominion over earth for a time, every part of
creation has always belonged to the Lord! Amen!!

 

Rev 10:3
...and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices.

 

A voice loud with authority, filled with regal, kingly quality as the lion roars! What of these seven thunders and their voices? I believe that John is referring to the fullness and ministry of the Holy Spirit! But what is their message?

 

Rev 10:4
Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Seal up the things which the seven
thunders uttered, and do not write them."

 

In chapter twelve of the book of Daniel, Daniel is given prophecy of the end times. In verse 9 Daniel is instructed to go his way, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. John has now been told to seal
up the words uttered by the seven thunders! It would seem in both cases that
the words of these passages are intended for those who are actually living in
the days of the end or tribulation!

 

Rev 10:5-6
5 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his hand to heaven 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and
the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea
and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer,

 

You may be thinking; "I thought this sort of thing is forbidden by the Lord!" Yes, but this is different. Let's read what Jesus says in the book of Matthew.

 

Matthew 5:33-37
"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.' 34 But I say to
you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; 35
nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city
of the great King. 36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you
cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and
your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

So how is this different? First of all, God sent this angel with this in mind! The angel is not swearing an oath that will not be kept! I believe that we as fallen sinners have a difficult time following through on all of the
oaths we commit to. God would rather we not swear an oath that we will not, or
can not keep! Here we witness this mighty angel swearing a solemn oath that
there will be absolutely no more delay! God has to this point been so very long
suffering, desiring that none should perish, but all come to repentance through
His Son, Jesus Christ! Now the time has come!

 

Rev 10:7
...but in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the
prophets.

 

I absolutely love the times we live in, as prophecy is fulfilled right before our eyes! God is giving us more and more of the puzzle pieces each day! We can literally hold a newspaper in one hand and our Bible in the other and
watch God unfold His mysteries to us! Unfortunately, not everyone will see or
perceive. Remember God's words to Isaiah?

 

Isaiah 6:8-9
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
"Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?"
Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."
9 And He said, "Go, and tell this people:
'Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.'

God had declared His mysteries to His prophets, but not fully revealed them until now! What a blessed generation we are! What an exciting time to be alive! We must share what we know to as many who will listen!

 

The Lord is coming very soon, I believe in our generation, so remember the alternative and see if there is anyone you know that you would not want to see the glory of God! I'm
guessing there are none, so let us band together and share the gospel to every
living creature!

 

Rev 10:8
Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, "Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the
sea and on the earth."

 

God speaks a command to John...

 

Rev 10:9a
So I went to the angel and said to him, "Give me the little book."

 

...and John obeys!

 

Rev 10:9b
And he said to me, "Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth."

 

There is a word that sometimes appears in the margin of some passages of scripture. The word is "Selah." It will be used to break up a passage and cause you to stop and meditate on what you've just read, to chew on it if
you will!

 

John has been prepared for the experience of chewing on this little book, the book containing the rest of the story! He will discover that God's judgment will leave him feeling bitter in his stomach. Judgment never goes down easy,
but the coming glory of God will! It will taste like honey on his lips!

 

Rev 10:10
Then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter.

 

And to John, it was just as he was told! Christianity is bitter-sweet indeed! We must never soft-sell life as a Christian. We will experience persecution as well as victory! We must learn to have the same attitude as
Paul!

 

Philippians 4:10-13
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I
speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be
content: 12 I know how to be abased and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in
all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and
to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Rev 10:11
And he said to me, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings."

 

Don't stop sharing the good news people! The good news of Jesus Christ must be shared with every person, nation, tongue, and king! John is called to prophesy of all of the devastation coming when the seventh trumpet blasts
introducing the seven Bowl Judgments!

 

Please! It is so very important! If you are reading these words, don't keep them to yourself! Share the great news of Jesus Christ with everyone you know! Give them the opportunity to avoid these horrific judgments!
