THE LORD FIGHTS OUR BATTLES (EXODUS 14:14).

The Israelites did not possess the advanced weaponry or sophisticated training of Pharaoh’s army. Yet they emerged victorious because the Lord fought their battles for them. When we face battles with doubt, fear, and uncertainty, we can be assured that the Lord will stand beside us and fight for us also. We must equip ourselves with the armor of God—the belt of truth, the body armor of righteousness, the shield of faith, the shoes of the…

THE LORD FREES US FROM SLAVERY (EXODUS 12:31-39).

The Exodus was such a crucial event in Israel’s history that it became the reference point by which the Israelites marked the passage of time. T his great release from Egyptian bondage also serves as a precursor to the freedom that Christ achieved on the cross for believers. For Christians, the atoning work of Jesus Christ offers release from sin. Let us continually praise God for the deliverance he has given us in Jesus Christ, who has freed us from the bonds of sin and death.

LORD…

GOD IS "I AM" (EXODUS 3:14).

When Moses asked God whom he should say sent him to the Hebrews, he surely was not prepared for the answer. “I AM“ (usually rendered “the LORD“) is a simple yet profound name expressing God’s character. As he emphasized his unchanging nature, the Lord also recalled his covenant, for he identified himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. When Jesus referred to himself as “I am” (John 8:58), he was identifying himself with the Lord…

GOD LISTENS TO OUR REQUESTS (EXODUS 6:5).

Prayer is our opportunity to converse with God. It is not a monologue or recitation of magic words but a dialogue with our Father, who is able to respond to our fears, needs, and concerns. And we can be certain that God hears us, because we know the answer to the psalmist’s question: “Is the one who made your ears deaf?” (Psalms94:9). Our Creator is always available, and he hears the cry of the righteous. Praise God for his attentive ear.

O GOD who hears us, you know our…

GOD OVERCOMES EVIL WITH GOOD (GENESIS 50:19-21).

We learn a great truth about God’s character in this last chapter of Genesis. Jacob’s sons, who intended to harm their brother, were used by God instead to save the lives of many people. Who could have brought good out of such evil intent? Only God, our Savior. He is able to use the worst tragedies to work some of the greatest good. Take comfort in God’s wonderful works. Praise the Lord, our Redeemer, for his providential care, which ultimately causes good to triumph over evil. FATHER IN…

GOD IS OUR ROCK (GENESIS 49:24).

Several passages in the Old Testament refer to God as a rock. This fitting metaphor calls to mind several attributes: He is firm and unmoving; He is unchanging; He is strong; when all else is uncertain, He remains steady and sure; and lastly, He is our defense, for in Him we find refuge and safety. Give praise to the Rock of our salvation, for He shelters us from foes and calamities. Cling to Him, for He will not be moved.

MIGHTY GOD, you are our rock, our fortress, our deliverer.…

GOD PRESERVES LIFE (GENESIS 46:3).

During a seven-year famine, Joseph acted to save his family and the nation of Egypt. God had specially prepared Joseph and raised him up to save the lives of many people. Praise God that in every generation he raises up faithful followers who demonstrate his mercy to others. God wishes none to perish (2 Peter 3:9) but calls all to eternal life.

MERCIFUL FATHER, you are the creator and sustainer of life. From the beginning of time you have raised up servants to honor you and show…

A PRAYER OF INTERCESSION FOR LEADERS !

Our hope is in God, who gives help. Let us call upon him, and say:

Look kindly on your children, Lord.

Lord, our God, you made an eternal covenant with your people,

keep us ever mindful of your mighty deeds.

Let your ordained ministers grow toward perfect love,

and preserve your faithful people in unity by the bond of peace.

Be with us in our work of building the earthly city,

that in building we may not labor in vain.

Send workers into your…

GOD EXALTS THE HUMBLE GENESIS 41:14.

Although Joseph was a prisoner in Egypt for many years, he remained faithful to the Lord. God eventually vindicated his servant by freeing him from prison. The New Testament also stresses that those who are willing to suffer for God will be exalted (Matthew 23:12). Thank God for hearing the pleas of the humble and raising them up. O GREAT GOD who listens to the cries of the humble, your faithfulness is everlasting. You bless and exalt those who follow you in humility. Teach us to follow in…

GOD CAUSES HIS PEOPLE TO PROSPER (GENESIS 39:2-3)

The Old Testament regularly connects obedience with blessing. Sometimes, as in the case of Joseph, such blessing was accompanied by material success. This does not mean, however, that we will always experience material prosperity if we obey God. He may choose to bless us in other ways. Whatever gifts God grants us, we should receive them as a reminder of God’s generosity toward his people.

HEAVENLY FATHER, you delight in giving good gifts to your children. We praise you for…

THE LORD IS THE GOD OF ISRAEL (GENESIS 33:20).

After his favorable meeting with Esau, Jacob built an altar to God and called it “God, the God of Israel.” By this he was acknowledging that the Lord was indeed his God. Jacob recognized that Esau’s changed heart was evidence of the power of God at work. Like Jacob, we should watch for and acknowledge God’s silent work in our life and the lives of others. The changed human heart is one of the greatest testimonies to God’s power.

O GOD, the God of Israel, we confess our…

THE LORD FILLS US WITH AWE (GENESIS 31:42) .

Jacob learned that God’s power far exceeded his own ability to manipulate or control his circumstances. If the Lord, “the awe-inspiring God” of his father, Isaac, had not intervened for Jacob, he would surely have been overwhelmed by his enemies. Jacob had recognized this as he denounced Laban’s unjust practices against him. Jacob knew that the Lord had protected him. This “awe-inspiring God” of Isaac protects us as well. We can call upon him to…

IS YOUR NAKEDNESS COVERED ?

“I will find joy in the LORD. I will delight in my God. He has dressed me in the clothes of salvation. He has wrapped me in the robe of righteousness like a bridegroom with a priest's turban, like a bride with her jewels”. Isa 61:10
