Going Home!

I have some sad news. My angel wife of forty years went home to be with Jesus tonight. This was very unexpected. I took went to see her this morning before work and took her McDonald's coffee with three creams. We had a nice conversation and before I left she asked me to feel her forehead. I told her she felt a little warm. The nurse gave her an antibiotic because they thought she had a urine…

The Acid Test

What would your attitude be about God if you had a Job experience? If all your friends, finances and physical health were lost how would you react? If your mate was diagnosed with a paralyzing but not fatal disease and could not walk or work would you remain faithful? Would you blame God if your child walked away from the faith? Could you worship God if no one in the church embraces your pain? If…

Milestones!

The year 2013 ushered in three milestones. Tomorrow my bride Karen and I will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. By all accounts our marriage should have ended in divorce. Karen was diagnosed in 1985 with Multiple Sclerosis and loss the use of her legs. Bankruptcy due to staggering medical bills, the loss of our home, life saving, Karen almost dying from a severe case of Mersa. The stress of working two jobs and having the primary responsibility raising our daughter did not allow much…

Entitlements

When I was growing up in the sixties my parents talked to me about entitlements. They said I was entitled to work hard and expect life to be hard. I was entitled to obey the law and respect my elders. I was entitled to keep my marriage vows and provide for my family even if I had to work two jobs. I was entitled to put others before myself and not to whine when I did not get my way. I was entitled to share my blessings with others even if it meant giving away my last dollar. I was entitled…

A Nation That Forgets God!

"The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God." (Psalm 9:17) A nations prosperity is directly tied to its relationship with God. Over the last 4500 years of world history two nations have proved that obeying God brings prosperity and disobeying God destroys a nation. The two examples are the nation of Israel and the United States of America. I do not…

Words Have Consequences!

"Then the woman whose son was living spoke to the king, for she yearned with compassion for her son; and she said, “O my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him!” (1 Kings 3:26 NKJ) In 1973 the year I was married the most devastating law in the history of the world was passed by our government. We refer to it as Roe vs. Wade. This law would allow any mother for any reason to terminate her pregnancy. On its…

Are There Many Truths?

Many people today are "seeking truth" We hear the word "pluralism" used in connection with this subject. Plural means many and ism means theory. Pluralism is the study of "many truths." In the realm of theology and faith we are told there are many paths to God. We treat belief in God like going to a food bar. Just pick out what you like. The problem with pluralism is its claim is totally impossible. In the scientific world there are not many laws of gravity or photosynthesis. There are…

Reflection on a Tragedy

What happened in Colorado is proof that evil exists. The shooter was a doctoral student from a nice family. He was not a down and out type or someone who came from an abusive home. The media blames these incidents on the need for stronger gun control laws. Nobody talks about the fact that our society glorifies violence which devalues human life. We abort tens of thousands of unborn babies and do not bat an eye. We medicate ourselves with…

Dying To Self

I believe many Christians equate "dying to self" with self-loathing. They adopt a fatalistic mindset which accepts everything that happens to them as being God's Will. This is nothing more than a Spiritual cop-out.

Hebrews 11:6 tells us "without faith it is impossible to please God." Dying to self does not mean feeling guilty about blessings. It means we understand where they come from and are thankful for them. Next year I will have been a Christian…

A Warriior Has Gone Home!

WASHINGTON — He was described as the "evil genius" of the Nixon administration, and spent the better part of a year in prison for a Watergate-related conviction. His proclamations following his release that he was a new man, redeemed by his religious faith, were met with more than skepticism by those angered at the abuses he had perpetrated as one of Nixon's hatchet men.

But Charles "Chuck" Colson spent the next 35 years steadfast in his efforts to evangelize to a part of society…

Education vs. Spirit Filled

There seems to be a deep rift in the body of Christ. On one side are the proponents of pastors seeking formal education. At the other end of the spectrum are the anti-education saints who say formally trained pastors do not depend on the Holy Spirit. This is a troubling dilemma because it unnecessarily pits well meaning Christians against each other.

The reality is both sides have valid concerns. This post will not solve the debate or probably change many minds on either side.…

Are Christians Sending The Wrong Message?

I am waiting for some prominent Christian or Christian organization to set the record straight during this election season. I believe Christians have been sending the wrong message to the American people and their elected officials. The wrong message is, “We need more social conservative Christians in office and rid our nation of liberals and those who oppose Christian values and capitalism!” The message should be, “As Christians, our source is not Washington D.C. it is Jesus Christ! The first… Continue

Prosperity not Poverty is Destroying America!

15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and…

Stop Blaming Politians

I was recently teaching a large adult SS class in a medium size church and asked if anyone could tell me something about the Protestant Reformation. Many in the class were prominent church leaders and teachers. Not one person knew what I was talking about. I was appalled to say the least. It is sad when Christians who attend church every Sunday for decades know only religious cliches' and talking points. Many church leaders cannot articulate a clear apologetic to a seeker. They do not…

Beyond Reasonable Doubt

An important strategy utilized  by defense attorneys is to plant a seed of doubt into the minds of the jury questioning the guilt of the person on trial. This was played out recently in a high profile case of a mother accused of killing her daughter. The job of the prosecutor is to present evidence proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Many today are confused by what evidence rises to the level of reasonable doubt. Here is the official definition of reasonable doubt.

The…

Salvation Is Not Free!

Charles de Lint said, "If you are not ready to die, how can you live"? Americans have a great legacy of men and women who freely layed down their life for our freedom. On this Independance weekend I  say THANK-YOU!

I pray every American will take the time to thank at least one member of the Armed Forces for their service. I thank God I live in America, the home of the brave and land of the free. Freedom has cost our nation millions of lives along with broken homes and…

Is Resistance Futile?

I loved the Star Trek Next Generation series. Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Star Ship Enterprise was a bald middle aged man with a British accent and piercing eyes. He was self confident and comfortable in his skin. The Star Ship Enterprise cruised the galaxy exploring planets and confronting hostile life forms. One of the most formidable enemies of the Enterprise was a human/machine like being know as the 'Borg'. The Borg was a collective controlled by of a single intelligence source.…

My Money Is On The Church!

This is Monday morning October 18, 2010. We are just weeks away from what many see as the most important election in recent times. When I listen to people talk especially Christians I have pause for concern. Let me say that I am all for Christians getting involved with politics and working towards getting legislation passed that supports the Constitution and Christian values. However, I am disturbed when Christians buy into the mentality that their life will be ruined if certain politicians…
